Although the "anti-clutter crowd" wants you to chuck out all your old paperwork, don't do it. If you want to keep your tax deductions the IRS will want you to produce PAPER RECEIPTS--not just credit card statements and cancelled checks.

While you're at it remember to keep all the notes and scratch papers who use when you're preparing your 2009 form 1040 (or getting the "organizer" ready for your tax preparer.) If you get audited you'll need to explain HOW you came up with the number on your return.
